2. The Sedona Amendments

Twenty were conducted over three years by ThePeoplesConvention.org with a total of approximately 450, predominantly white and older residents of Sedona, Arizona, fairly balanced by political persuasion and gender.

When asked what they felt would make the single biggest difference in restoring their trust and confidence in, or upgrading and strengthening, the American democratic process, their top three choices were in order of priority:

1. Require honesty in American politics 
2. Remove the influence of private wealth on the political process
3. Raise the ethics ethics in government 

They then drafted, and over 75% approved, the following proposals.You are invited to provide constructive comments

1. REQUIRING COMPLETE HONESTY IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS

a. WHEREAS,
In a “modern, true” democracy (MTD)™, every person has an equal and fair opportunity to participate, and be heard, in decisions affecting the community, and

b. WHEREAS,
If some people receive receive complete, honest, accurate and intelligible information (CHAI) on matters of public policy and some do not, it is inherently unfair, unequal, undemocratic and unconstitutional, and

c. WHEREAS,
If someone misleads or deceives the federal government, it is a felony (18 USC 1001). However, it remains LEGAL today for some members of the federal government, including elected representatives, to mislead or deceive the American people at will with impunity, and

d. WHEREAS,
Today, anyone may use tools of mass media and legally mislead or deceive the American people on matters of public policy, and

e. WHEREAS,
There are generally eight exceptions to the First Amendment right of free speech and onc included s fraud

            It remains legal to allow some people to use extraordinary amounts of private resources to       mislead or deceive others on matters of public policy,

WHEREAS,

            The first amendment constitutional right to freedom of speech is not absolute and is typically             limited when it’s use injures others, and

WHEREAS,

            It has long been illegal and constitutional to prosecute those that mislead, deceive or defraud       others in commercial transactions, and

WHEREAS,

            It is certainly possible to make it constitutional and illegal to misled, deceive or defraud the   American people on matters of public policy

THEREFORE, the people of the state of ____________ hereby approve the following amendment to their state constitution as well as the U.S. Constitution

            “The people shall have the right to complete, honest, accurate and intelligible information on all matters of public policy.”
